Best Friends Pit Bull Initiative

The Best Friends Animal Society Pitbull Initiative aims to help pit bulls nationwide by raising awareness about them and aims to educate the public about the false ideas about them perpetuated by the media, and also aims to end their discrimination.

History has shown that through the years, there has been a dog breed that is vilified. From Bloodhounds, Shepherds, Dobermans, Rottweilers, and now the Pit Bull.

What most people don't know is that there is really no such thing as a Pit Bull breed, and there have been tests wherein people have been asked to identify the Pit Bull from a bunch of pictures of different dogs, and most of the time, most people won't be able to identify which it would be.

Take for example some of the Vicktory dogs, through DNA testing, some of them have been identified as more of a mixed breed. Also, they are quite an example of how the Pit Bull perception is false, as they get rehabilitated, and prove that they are individuals, and all they needed was patience, time and a whole lot of love.

It is unfair to label a whole breed of dog as "bad" or "vicious" and that they should be eradicated through banning the breed. In fact, at some point in our history, Pit Bulls have been considered the family dog. It is quite a jump now from how society tends to view them. The media doesn't help the situation either, most articles about dog bites are usually only covered by one or two media sites, unless the dog bite came from a Pit Bull, which is then picked up by hundreds of media sites, both nationwide and as well as worldwide.
